Late in posting! Here is an update of last weekend’s (January 19-20th) workshop. Molds were cleaned, glass powders and fine frit were made into a paste (using Gum Arabic & water) and carefully placed within the molds. in between layers the glass paste was dried out using a hair dryer. This afternoon I pulled number 1, the left shoe/platform out of it’s mold. Totally worried that the crystals didn’t form… Slowly, as I held my breath (wearing a respirator ;)), I gently removed the mold material from the crystal. Finally, the platform emerged!! Current update, September 8 2012 Each costume, inspired by the environment, current (past & continuing) political issues, Science/Evolution/Religion Jökulsárlón shoe #1 is currently annealing since, yesterday. Casting began Thursday evening September 6th. Washed Gaffer crystal.
